Connecting Teen Voices for Change

Directed by Miguel Borrás and Rachel Castillo

2014 - 2016

Through this two-year theater workshop and international exchange program, middle school students in the Bronx (MS 331) and in Nanterre, France participated in intensive daily theater workshops, meeting over Skype to share their work. In Summer 2015 the Bronx students traveled to France to present their adaptation of the French play "Three Beggars and A Rich Man" by Louis Calaferte.

They performed in Paris and in Nanterre, a largely immigrant neighborhood just outside Paris. The following Summer 2016, the French students came to New York City, performing their original play "An Attic Full of Hope" based on the novel "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros.

The play was performed at Alliance Francaise and the students celebrated their work and the culmination of the two-year project at ID Studio Theater in the Bronx. The project provides an arena for two under-resourced neighborhoods in the U.S and France to learn from each other’s theater traditions and cultures and develop collaborative work that impacts the health and welfare of their communities.
