"La Casa Grande" takes place in a large, apparently abandoned house at the edge of town which has been gradually taken over by a group of young immigrants, who have made it a refuge and a safe place to imagine their future in a new country.
Following the death of his sister, the master of the house returns to his ancestral home to reclaim his property. When he discovers the children in the house, he tries to assert his ownership and drive them out. But they gradually show him that it has become their house too, claiming “Though you may throw us out, others will keep coming.” The following scenes build the interaction between the adolescents and the owner, juxtaposing dream sequences and reality. Finally, Death comes to take the Master.
