CUMBIA DE MI CORAZÓN
WRITTEN BY TOBY CAMPION
Heriberto, dead for 50 years, is stuck in limbo, the antechamber to heaven. He refuses to enter until he can reunite with his beloved wife, Maruca. The day of her death, three novice angels are placed in charge of the espousal reunion. However, still confused by the Alzheimer that plagued her later years, Maruca does not recognize Heriberto. His task will be to reawaken his adored wife, aided by the rookie angels, and guide her to eternal love. His method: the cumbias and porros of the 1940s and 1950s, the soundtrack they danced to in Barranquilla on the Caribbean coast of Colombia during their courtship and the first years of their marriage. Will Heriberto’s strategy work? If so, will he and Maruca be able to dance their way to heaven?
