Past Projects
ARSENIO
A play that pays tribute to the life and music of Arsenio Rodríguez, the visionary Afro Cuban composer known as El Ciego Maravilloso or The Wondrous Blind Man.
His innovations in the son genre transformed tropical music in the 1950s and laid the groundwork for new musical forms, including the emergence of salsa in the South Bronx. This production is the third installment of the Entre Dos Mundos trilogy, which explores cultural and spiritual themes rooted in Latin American music. The first installment centers on Colombian cumbia, and the second on the songs of Mexico’s Pedro Infante.
EL PESEBRE
Every December, a group gathers to create a nativity play. They arrive with memories, doubts, hopes, and a shared desire to keep a tradition alive. What begins as a simple reenactment becomes a lively meditation on the stories we inherit and the ones we choose to pass on. El Pesebre is an immersive and joyful “play within a play” that draws from the centuries old tradition begun in 1223 and reimagines it through the lens of Latin American cultural memory.
This year’s production welcomes performers from New York’s Latinx theater communities, artists who bring their own questions and creative spirit to the ensemble. Their presence infuses the work with new life, transforming a beloved annual tradition into a reflection on continuity, belonging, and the quiet power of gathering.

DOS HERMANAS
Petra returns to New York for her father’s funeral — but what begins as a short visit becomes a life-changing decision. Searching for direction, she accepts a job at a juvenile correctional facility, unaware of how the emotional toll will unravel her sense of self and strain her relationship with Diego, her partner.
The genesis of this play emerged from ID Studio Theater’s research into the now-shuttered Spofford Juvenile Detention Center in Hunts Point. The play draws from that history to examine the personal impact of structural violence, institutional silence, and the emotional aftermath of bearing witness.
As silence grows between them, Petra spirals into depression — and yet, in the middle of chaos, she begins to find small ways to save herself. Meanwhile, Diego struggles to find his way out of his own abyss of unexpressed emotions. Petra is a moving portrait of love, loss, and the quiet, radical act of choosing to stay alive.
