ABOUT ID STUDIO

The mission of ID Studio Theater is to advance the artistic and social empowerment of immigrant communities through innovative work in the performing arts.

Formed in 2001 and incorporated in 2005, ID Studio has developed over 25 original bilingual theater productions and dozens of workshop programs within immigrant communities. We promote the performing arts as a means of building community knowledge, catalyzing collective action, encouraging inter-community dialogue and celebrating our common humanity.

ID Studio’s projects have been shown at a wide range of venues, from international theater festivals to schools and community spaces. ID Studio fosters exchanges with cultural organizations in Latin America, Europe and Africa while also partnering with community-based organizations such as CaringKind, Urban Health, Make the Road NY and Dreamyard in New York, and Unidad Latina en Acción in New Haven, CT.

ID Studio is a proud member of the Alliance of Teatros Latinos NY and LxNY: Latinx Arts Consortium of New York.

HOTEL DE VAGABUNDOS

Set In a 1940s Harlem boarding house filled with immigrants chasing possibility, a false accusation upends the balance of power and relationships. As one man faces execution, the residents unite to uncover the real culprit—exposing injustice within the walls of the hotel and beyond.

Petra returns to New York for her father’s funeral — but what begins as a short visit becomes a life-changing decision. Searching for direction, she accepts a job at a juvenile correctional facility, unaware of how the emotional toll will unravel her sense of self and strain her relationship with Diego, her partner.

ARSENIO

This play honors the life and music of the gifted Afro-Cuban composer Arsenio Rodriguez (1911-1970),Working with the musical style known as son, he initiated a radical shift in tropical music that, among other things, would eventually lead to the creation of salsa in the south of the Bronx.
