Toby Campion is a playwright, novelist, and bilingual storyteller whose work centers on bicultural experiences and the ties between North and South America. His writing journey spans more than five decades, beginning with the production of his first one act in New York at age eighteen and continuing through an expansive body of bilingual plays and screenplays, several developed and premiered at ID Studio Theater. His Latin American trilogy Entre Dos Mundos includes Cumbia de mi Corazon, Pedro Infante, Cien Años Pienso en Ti, and ¡Arsenio!, created at ID Studio and recipient of multiple Latin ACE Award nominations and wins.
Before dedicating himself fully to writing, Toby built a multifaceted career as a chiropractor, yoga and meditation teacher, and community educator, work that deeply shaped his approach to storytelling and his belief in listening as a creative practice. His life and art are profoundly informed by his marriage to Anita Montero Roig and his long relationship with Mexico, which he considers his second homeland.
Toby’s plays have been produced across the United States and Mexico, and his screenplay Como Caído del Cielo, based on his stage play Pedro Infante y la Suegra Triunfante, premiered on Netflix in 2019. He has served on the boards of several arts organizations and brings to ID Studio Theater a lifelong commitment to cross cultural dialogue, humor, and the power of narrative to offer audiences moments of recognition, reflection, and relief.
